Tour operators waste hours manually managing calendars, updating availability across dozens of systems, and coordinating resources. Bokun turns that chaos into an automated, scalable process.
Why Bokun?
Bokun isn't just "another booking system" — it's a complete operational ecosystem designed specifically for the tourism industry.
- No double bookings: Real-time availability synchronization across all channels. A spot booked on your site = automatically unavailable on Viator, GetYourGuide, and 70+ other platforms.
- Save 200+ hours a year: Automatic guest emails, resource management, mass closures — everything that previously required Excel and emails now happens on its own.
- More bookings with less effort: The Bokun marketplace gives you access to 2600+ resellers. Instead of negotiating each integration separately, you plug into the ecosystem within days.
What do we do at Tesserakt?
Bokun implementation and configuration
We implement Bokun from scratch or optimise existing settings:
- Data migration: We move products, price lists, and calendars from an old system (FareHarbor, Rezdy, Checkfront) to Bokun without losing history.
- Product configuration: We set up complex combo products, seasonal price lists, resource allocation, and cancellation rules.
- Multi-channel setup: We connect Viator, GetYourGuide, Klook, Expedia, and other OTAs with optimal commission and per-channel pricing settings.
Integration with the site and ecosystem
Bokun out of the box is 60% of its potential. The real value is integration with your digital ecosystem:
- Custom booking widget: We embed the Bokun booking widget into an Astro/Next.js site with your own branding, colour scheme, and UX. Booking without redirects.
- White-label website: We build a dedicated booking site based on the Bokun API (Bokun White-label), with full control over design and customer journey.
- CRM & Marketing automation: Bokun webhooks → HubSpot/Salesforce. A new booking automatically creates a lead, triggers a welcome sequence, and tags the customer.
- Custom reporting: We combine Bokun data with Google Data Studio/Looker Studio for advanced analytics (revenue per channel, conversion rate, occupancy rate).
API and custom development
We use the Bokun API for scenarios beyond the standard features:
- Dynamic pricing: Integration with your own pricing algorithm (e.g. lower price at low occupancy, last-minute discounts via API updates).
- B2B portal: A dedicated panel for trade partners (resellers) with wholesale pricing, availability checks, and bulk booking.
- Mobile app: A native or PWA app for guides — guest check-in, real-time schedule, push notifications about changes.
- Resource optimisation: Custom guide/vehicle allocation algorithms taking into account language skills, experience, and legal working-hour limits.
Who is Bokun for?
Tour operators: Organizers of group and private tours, from small local operations to global ones.
Attractions: Museums, amusement parks, zoos, water parks — capacity and timed entry management.
Activities / Adventures: Rafting, snorkeling, trekking, skydiving — everything that requires equipment and guides.
Rental providers: Bike, kayak, car, and boat rentals — inventory management and availability tracking.
Destinations / DMOs: Tourism organisations managing an ecosystem of local suppliers and directing traffic to partners.
Ground transport: Transfers, shuttles, coach tours — routing, pick-up points, and dynamic pricing.
Bokun vs the competition
FareHarbor: The biggest competitor, owned by Booking.com. Strong in the US, weaker in Europe. No Bokun marketplace and a worse API for developers.
Rezdy: Good for small operators, weaker in enterprise features and multi-channel management. Less advanced pricing tools.
Checkfront: A simpler system, better for rentals and accommodations. Weaker in integrations with global OTAs and marketplaces.
Regiondo / Xola: Strong in specific regions (DACH for Regiondo, US for Xola), but a smaller global reseller reach.
Custom development: If you have a unique business model (e.g. subscriptions, complex dynamic pricing rules, IoT integrations), pure Bokun may not be enough. Then we combine Bokun with a custom backend.
Pricing and ROI
Bokun offers a subscription model without long-term contracts:
- No Bokun fees on Viator: 0% commission on bookings through Viator (unlike other channel managers).
- Scalable plans: Upgrade/downgrade at any time depending on the season and business growth.
- Booking fee pass-through: The ability to pass the transaction fee on to the guest (transparent, with no impact on margin).
Typical ROI:
- 250% more bookings after adding the widget to your site and connecting the marketplace
- 200+ hours saved per year on manual operations
- 15-30% revenue growth through dynamic pricing and better distribution
Integrations
OTA & Resellers:
- Viator, GetYourGuide, Klook, Expedia, Tripadvisor Experiences, Airbnb Experiences
- 70+ global OTAs and 2600+ resellers in the marketplace
Payment gateways:
- Stripe, PayPal, Square, Adyen
- Secure payment links, immediate payouts
Calendars & Communication:
- Google Calendar, Outlook
- Automatic emails, SMS reminders, review requests
API & Webhooks:
- REST API for custom integrations
- Webhooks for real-time sync with external systems
When is Bokun not enough?
Bokun has limits:
- Subscriptions and memberships: If your model is the Netflix of tourism (monthly access to an unlimited number of attractions), Bokun does not natively support recurring subscriptions.
- Very complex pricing logic: If prices depend on 10+ real-time variables (weather, demand, inventory, loyalty tier), you need a custom layer on top of the Bokun API.
- Multi-day tours with dynamic routing: Routes that change every day depending on conditions — Bokun is good, but not perfect for ultra-dynamic itineraries.
Summary
Bokun is the most mature booking platform for the tourism industry, especially if your goal is global distribution through OTAs and automated operations.
Tesserakt doesn't just configure Bokun. We design the customer journey, integrate it with your site and marketing ecosystem, build custom reporting, and optimise revenue per channel.
